McKeon D400 Rolling Curtain Shutter

The new JP Morgan Chase office at Denver Market Station presented a unique building code challenge requiring a 44’ wide, UL-10B fire-rated opening protective to form a compliant elevator lobby. McKeon’s FireFighter Model D400 curtain system became the perfect solution for this application, offering a 2-hr UL-10B fire-rating including hose stream test and compact housing measuring approx. 12” deep by 16” high. The system featured lightweight fire-rated fabric that simplified the mobilization of the system in this existing core shell space and lessened the structural support requirements as compared with a traditional coiling steel door.
Powers thanks IA Interior Architects and Jordy Construction for the opportunity to collaborate on this project.
How Powers Enabled this narrow Elevator Lobby to be as open as possible while meeting code requirements:
2-hr UL-10B Fire-rating including hose stream test
Compact housing measuring approx. 12” deep by 16” high
Lightweight fire-rated fabric simplifying mobilization of the system in this existing core shell space
Traditional coiling steel doors weigh 8,000lbs. By using the rolling curtain shutter, we were able to reduce the weight by 6,000lbs
McKeon d400
The D400 is a one-of-a-kind rolling curtain shutter that has been tested and labeled to UL 10B for 90 minutes with hose stream and UL 1784 smoke & draft. Unparalleled in the market, it is designed to protect openings in any wall rated up to 2 hours – including Fire Walls and Fire Barrier Walls!
A simple but unique configuration of textile layers permanently joined together as one unit and stored on a barrel in the head box. When deployed, the D400 rolls down as if it were a rolling steel door! A substantial opening protective ready to withstand heat, fire, smoke and the ultimate integrity test – the hose stream.
