Sie Welcome Center
DAM Fine Space
The Sie Welcome Center is a singular elliptical structure with 25-foot-tall curved, insulated glass units.
Have you seen the Biophilia – Nature Reimagined exhibit at the Denver Art Museum (DAM)? If not, you’d better hurry! This exhibit, closing Sunday, August 11, features more than 80 works of imagination and highlights the transformative power of nature.
While you’re there, check out the embodiment of the exhibit, the museum’s show-stopping curvilinear Sie Welcome Center featuring Modernfold Legacy single-panel partitions.
All Curves
Inspired by the shape of Gio Ponti’s 1971 DAM Martin Building and designed by Machado Silvetti (Design Architect) and Fentress Architects (Architect of Record), the Sie Welcome Center is a singular elliptical structure encased in 25-foot-tall curved, insulated glass units.
This three-level, 50,000-square-foot project was built by Saunders Construction and opened its doors in 2021. The project features visitor-centric amenities such as a restaurant, café, and improved wayfinding, along with dynamic and flexible program spaces and a state-of-the-art event hall.
Completed in 1971, the DAM Martin Building by Italian modernist Gio Ponti inspired the shape of the project.
It’s all in the details – making copious design detail notations. Maintaining an STC rating on a radiused stacking 40-panel system is no small feat. Our in-house Space Flex experts pay strict attention to the intricacies throughout the construction timeline to ensure the specified outcome.
Wrap Around – Tackling the Acoustic Challenge
The Powers Products team was brought in to consult on several high-performance products on this project including McKeon wide-span fire doors with egress and, most notably, the large single-panel Legacy operable partition by Modernfold.
Partitioning this circular meeting space, and sectioning off the event space from the pavilion lobby, was especially tricky when it came to maintaining the Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating because of the required radius of the operable partitions. Paying strict attention to the gaps between the panels, Powers consultants were able to help specify 52 STC panels that helped meet the acoustical needs of the museum.
Customized and Tucked Away
A whimsical geometric-shaped custom vinyl graphic applied to the operable partition panels adds energy and color to the space when the separation is fully deployed. When it’s time to open the space the approximately 245-foot wall stacks cleverly into a specially-designed pocket door hidden from view.
