DREAM. DISCOVER. LEARN. CREATE. PLAY.

“DREAM. DISCOVER. LEARN. CREATE. PLAY.” read the 24-inch-tall letters affixed above the walkway to the entrance of the new Parkway Elementary in Monahans, TX. These five words encapsulate both the inspiration and design goals for the ultramodern 900-student learning facility – including a Kalwall sky roof and wall panels aimed to flood the interior spaces with natural light.

“The Kalwall sky roof in the main hallways along with the wall panels in the gym provide the perfect combination of glare-less natural light without sacrificing aesthetics or thermal capabilities, said Parkhill Principal and Project Manager, RJ Lopez. “The custom patterns and colors in the wall panels provide the whimsy and excitement that the building committee hoped every student and teacher would feel when experiencing their new facility.”

This transformative plan by architects Parkhill addressed all aspects of the facility. After three years of extensive planning and collaboration with city and school officials and community members, Parkhill’s K-12 Sector group informed the design.

“We had a lot of collaborative support from the district’s principals, administrators, and maintenance staff but also with the community. They were involved especially in the stage o master planning,” Parkhill’s Director of K-12 Business Development Allen Wolf said.

Parkhill and the City of Monahans share the belief that investing in education is critical to Building Community, and it gives every child the opportunity and learning tools they need to flourish in life. The cost-efficient and energy-saving design of the campus saved the district significant funds throughout the building process and will continue to save annual costs over the facility’s life cycle.
