Lubbock-Cooper Liberty High School was designed to provide students and staff with a modern, open learning environment while maintaining the highest standards of life safety, fire protection, and code compliance. To support these goals, six Smoke Guard M2100 deployable fire- and smoke-rated curtains were installed to protect openings leading into a major corridor within the facility.

Modern educational facilities often feature expansive commons, collaboration spaces, and interconnected learning environments that require innovative fire and smoke separation solutions. At Liberty High School, the Smoke Guard M2100 systems remain concealed during normal operation, preserving open sightlines, natural daylight, and the architectural character of the school. Upon fire alarm activation, the curtains automatically deploy to create fire- and smoke-resistant barriers that help compartmentalize the building, limit smoke migration, and maintain protected egress routes for students, faculty, and visitors.

A unique feature of Liberty High School is its remarkably long main corridor, which stretches an estimated 500 yards in length. The strategically located Smoke Guard M2100 systems help protect this extensive circulation path, supporting the building’s overall smoke control strategy while enhancing occupant safety throughout the campus.

Unlike traditional fire-rated doors or permanent partitions, Smoke Guard deployable curtains provide code-compliant fire and smoke separation only when needed, allowing the school to maintain a more open and flexible educational environment. The result is a safer facility that balances life safety requirements with the collaborative design priorities of today’s K-12 schools.
